Traditions in new colours: a patchwork quilting workshop held at the National Centre RUSSIA
On July 24,
a workshop titled "Textile Decorations" was held at the National
Centre RUSSIA as part of the patchwork exposition "Soul of Russia."
Both adults and children took part, immersing themselves in the world of folk
art and learning how to turn simple fabric scraps into elegant accessories.
Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, participants explored colour
combinations, worked with different textures and created their own design
solutions while preserving traditional techniques.
The
"Soul of Russia" exposition, which is part of the international
festival of the same name, will continue at the National Centre RUSSIA until
July 27. The exposition features works by masters from Ufa, Arkhangelsk,
Voronezh, Tula, Moscow, and other cities — all created using traditional
methods, preserving the spirit of folk art.
"The
'Soul of Russia' festival is a unique opportunity to see the full creative
spectrum of our country. Artisans from all over the world — from Korea to Japan
— also take part, and that is truly inspiring. Children who come with their
parents discover a kind of magic: how a small scrap of fabric can turn into a
fairy tale — birds, flowers, entire stories. They begin to create their own,
amazed by their abilities. This is not just a craft — it is a caring attitude
towards the world, towards traditions, towards each other. This kind of
creative experience brings people together, makes us kinder and closer,"
said Tatiana Lazareva, the workshop instructor and a teacher of various types
of decorative and applied arts.
The
"Soul of Russia" festival reflects the preservation of spiritual and
moral values. Here, patchwork quilting becomes more than a craft — it is a
living link between generations, connecting the past and the present. The
workshops held as part of the exposition offer an opportunity not only to learn
new skills, but also to feel part of a larger creative movement. All materials
are provided, and registration is available in the "Events" section
of the National Centre RUSSIA website.
