Traditional values and modern challenges: touching Chinese animation at the "Legacy for the Future" exposition
Visitors to the National Centre RUSSIA can immerse themselves in the cultures of various countries through art and explore the creative visions of young artists from Russia, China, India, Brazil, Ethiopia, and Iran. The "Legacy for the Future" exposition features paintings, photographs, sculptures, and even modern animation. Short animated films touch on diverse themes, ranging from intergenerational connections and the philosophy of contemplation to insecurities about appearance.
Especially for the "Legacy for the Future" exposition, student animators from Chinese art schools have contributed their works. In just a few minutes, these creators manage to build unique worlds, captivating plots, and memorable characters. For example, the animated short "Online Interview," which explores the job search experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, blends comedy, thriller elements, and social drama, complemented by unique animation and brilliant editing.
Another notable work is the poignant animated short "Kingdom of the White Day." The story centers on a girl who dreams of stopping the flow of time because she is not ready to say goodbye to her beloved grandmother. The director reflects on intergenerational connections and family traditions, encouraging viewers to accept that everything eventually ends. However, time spent with loved ones remains invaluable and unforgettable. The film’s charm is further enhanced by its use of traditional watercolor animation.
The touching story "Soul's Fire" weaves together the fates of a gravely ill girl and a female firefighter who risks her life every day for others.
"It’s a beautiful animation, rich in vibrant symbols and imagery. Although the story is sad, it is deeply inspiring. It makes you want to be kinder and believe in a better future," shared one viewer, Lidiya Komova.
Each animated film boasts a unique style, and all the works can be viewed within an hour. There’s no need to worry about missing a session, as the films are shown continuously throughout the day.
"Legacy for the Future" is a large-scale project by the National Centre RUSSIA, promoting the idea of a multinational dialogue about the future of the world, placing humanity at its core. The exposition showcases works by young artists who reflect on the present, express their perspectives on past events, and contemplate the future through their art.
