As part of the panel discussion "A Space of Opportunities for Young Artists in Russia: Rethinking the Future," the National Centre RUSSIA held the presentation of the International Competition for Young Artists "Kartina Mira" ("Global Picture.")

"The 'Kartina Mira' competition, in my view, carries an important mission by expanding and strengthening cultural ties. It is also one of the tools of diplomacy. I am confident that the results will once again demonstrate that the Russian creative community is in tune with current events, reflecting on the changes happening not only in our country but also worldwide. Artists capture relevant social trends, national culture, and identity," noted Deputy Minister of Culture of Russia Sergei Pershin

The project will bring together artists from different countries and help them reflect on and convey the values of their nations through art. The competition is held in three categories: painting, graphics, and digital art.

"The goal of the competition is to find new impulses for cultural exchange among creative individuals from around the world and to present national values as part of humanity’s global culture. This project engages artists in exploring traditions and their evolution in the modern world. In the first stage, the creative council will select 100 works; in the second stage, the 50 best pieces will be chosen; and in the third stage, 14 finalists will be determined through voting. The selection process is already in full swing — so far, more than 190 applications have been submitted by young artists from 18 countries," said Natalia Popova, First Deputy Director General of the Innopraktika company.

The works of the competition finalists will be showcased at the Kaliningrad branch of the Tretyakov Gallery as part of the V International Classical Music Festival "Cantata." The exposition will open in June 2025.

"The result of our work should demonstrate the scale and potential of engaging with the contemporary artistic community. It is a synergy of science, technology, culture, and art. As soon as the list of participants advancing to the second stage of the competition is announced, we will be pleased to present the exhibition at the new branch of the Tretyakov Gallery in Kaliningrad," emphasized Yelena Pronicheva, Director General of the State Tretyakov Gallery.

As noted by Semyon Mikhaylovsky, Rector of the Ilya Repin St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, the competition is open, and applications are not restricted by geography — anyone interested can submit their work. Students and graduates of specialized art institutions, as well as independent young artists aged 18 to 35, regardless of their place of residence, are eligible to participate.

According to Andrei Serov, First Vice President of Gazprombank JSC, the "Kartina Mira" competition is a unique opportunity for young artists from any region of Russia or any country to make a name for themselves on the global stage.

"Thanks to the 'Kartina Mira' project, a young artist from any corner of the world, from any region, has a unique opportunity — to create a work and, in just six months, become part of an exposition at the Tretyakov Gallery. This is a ticket to the big leagues, a chance to be noticed and recognized. We are witnessing a moment when Russia is becoming a magnet for young artists from all over the world. This is not by chance: within Russia, there is a strong emphasis on supporting young talents. One only needs to look at the vast number of self-fulfillment projects," added Andrei Serov

Olesya Malevannaya, Head of the Laboratory for Cultural and Educational Projects at the National Centre RUSSIA, emphasized that the National Centre is always ready to support creative initiatives, including those of young artists, and wished great success to the "Kartina Mira" competition.

The competition is initiated by the Innopraktika company and is held in collaboration with the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Ilya Repin St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, with the support of the Academy of Creative Industries Meganom. The project's partner is Gazprombank.

Applications for participation in the competition can be submitted until March 1, 2025, on the official website: https://kartinamira.art/en.
