International Space Games and a space settlement for astronauts presented at the National Centre RUSSIA
At the National Centre RUSSIA, as part of the Russian Space
Forum, a presentation of the first International Space Games (ISG) for young
engineers modelling the exploration of the planets of the Solar System took
place. Representatives of public authorities, scientific and educational
institutions, development institutions, forum participants, and other guests
were also presented with a conceptual model of a space settlement that will be
built specifically for the competitions.
The concept of the Games was presented by Deputy Minister of
Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and coordinator of the
federal project "Personnel for Space" under the national space
project, Olga Petrova.
"Participants of the first International Space Games
will be immersed in a mode of engineering response to real-world challenges
under conditions of limited resources, time pressure, and high technological
uncertainty. They will face tasks and challenges relevant both to space and to
Earth. The competitions are aimed at developing international cooperation among
future technological leaders of the space industry. The Games are designed to
become a real career accelerator for young talent and contribute to the
creation of a sustainable international engineering community," said Olga
Petrova.
The conceptual model of the space settlement was presented
by President of the Association of Technology Clubs Participants, Alexei
Fedoseyev. The three-dimensional planning model includes ten hemispherical
domes connected by a network of sealed passages. The model clearly demonstrates
the principle of modular expansion of the base and a closed-loop life-support
system for astronauts. Engineering systems, including solar panels and
radiators, are located along the outer perimeter and are complemented by LED
lighting used to zone residential, laboratory, and technical areas.
"The International Space Games are not just a
competition of the strongest young engineers aimed at training personnel in key
areas of the space industry — from energy and robotics to artificial
intelligence and biotechnology. Our goal is to turn these engineering
competitions, which will be held in Russia for the first time this year, into a
real reality show with online broadcasts from the domes, followed by audiences
in participating countries and around the world," said Vice-Rector of the
National Research University Higher School of Economics, Executive Secretary of
the Organising Committee of the National Technology Olympiad, and leader of the
NTI working group "Kruzhkovoye Dvizheniye" ("Clubs Movement
"), Dmitry Zemtsov.
The Games are planned to take place in Russia in the summer
of 2026 with the participation of national student teams from CIS, SCO, and
BRICS+ countries. In the format of a space mission, international
multidisciplinary teams will compete in solving tasks related to the creation
and management of autonomous settlements in extreme conditions. The main
objective for engineers will be to sustain operations for as long as possible
after "landing".
The presentation was attended by representatives of
Roscosmos State Corporation, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of
the Russian Federation, and the Skolkovo Foundation, curators of the federal
project "Personnel for Space", as well as representatives of the
Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the National Technology Initiative platform,
the media sector, the project team, and participants of the Russian Space
Forum.
The International Space Games are implemented as part of the
federal project "Personnel for Space" under the national space
project, coordinated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the
Russian Federation and Roscosmos State Corporation. The operator is the
National Research University Higher School of Economics, with methodological
support provided by the project office of the National Technology Olympiad (NTO)
in cooperation with the technology clubs of the National Technology Initiative
(NTI).
A session titled "Global Interdisciplinary Dialogue: How to Tell Stories about Space and Create Content in the Digital Age" was held at the National Centre RUSSIA as part of the first Russian Space Forum.
The stamp features a cosmonaut looking out of a spacecraft porthole into a star cluster and the depths of space.
The large-scale event is being held as part of Space Week.
