The "Heroes of a Big Country" film award ceremony will be held at the National Centre RUSSIA on 11-12 February. The event is dedicated to projects that shape the image of a hero; contribute to the development and upbringing of youth; promote traditional values; and respond to contemporary global challenges. Organisers and participants discussed the upcoming film award at the TASS press centre.

"For us, it is important that the 'Heroes of a Big Country' film award is going to be held at the National Centre RUSSIA, as we share the same goals. The National Centre was established by order of President Vladimir Putin as a place where people can take pride in the country and in the people who have contributed, are contributing, and will contribute to Russia's development. Cinema is one of the most sincere forms of art. It remains one of the primary tools for shaping values, educating people, and preserving memory. And despite the emergence of artificial intelligence in this age of high technology, which can write scripts and create films, human beings remain the conduit of emotions because they possess a heart, responsibility, and empathy. It is important to us that Russian cinema develops, fulfils educational and meaning-creating functions, and sets examples to aspire to. These examples are, first and foremost, heroes in their professions — participants of the special military operation, doctors, educators. And we will show the winning films of the award at our venue," said Anastasia Zvyagina, Deputy Director General of the National Centre RUSSIA.

Mikhail Churbanov, General Producer of the "Heroes of a Big Country" award, noted that the films young people watch today will determine the country's future. Modern cinema is a time capsule by means of which we can lay the foundations for the consciousness of future generations.

"532 projects were submitted for the film award. Based on a scientific-integrative approach, against the criteria of 'professional quality' and '17 values — the image of a hero,' 55 films and series were shortlisted. On 11-12 February, the National Centre RUSSIA will host the National Film Award 'Heroes of a Big Country,' combining the research and business programme of the award forum and the grand award ceremony," said Mikhail Churbanov.

The partner of the "Heroes of a Big Country" film award is the New Media Workshop. Yulia Ablets, Deputy Director General of the ANO "Dialogue Regions" and founder of the New Media Workshop, noted that, according to a survey conducted by the Workshop, the majority of young people see movie heroes as role models.

"We conducted a large-scale survey of over a thousand young people from Russia and other countries. 83 percent of respondents noted that the heroes they see in films, books, on TV screens and on stage, completely influence their life decisions, their choice of role models, and their behaviour. This figure confirms the statement that heroes have a real impact on youth," emphasised Yulia Ablets.

Additionally, survey results show that 38 percent see a hero as an ordinary person performing a brave deed, while 37 percent of respondents want to see people whose daily work makes the lives of others better — teachers, doctors, scientists — in the role of heroes.

"The main thing we would like to see come out of the 'Heroes of a Big Country' festival is the birth of new stars, film directors, geniuses who make films. We have the largest country in the world, rich in talents, and it is important to find them. The award is a tool that gives talents an opportunity, and then they will manage with this tool themselves," stressed Anastasia Zvyagina.

The Russian theatre and film actor Igor Petrenko spoke about the award's mission and his personal perception of its values: "There is some mission in this, after all, and that is wonderful. To be at the epicentre of energies, understandings, meanings — for me as a citizen, this is both a joy and happiness. I want to say a huge thank you for the opportunity to participate in this movement because it evokes exclusively positive emotions in me, warmth in my heart and soul. This project was created to learn to love and respect oneself. I have watched many unique films filled with wonderful energy."

The forum programme includes discussions of the role of cinema in the life of a modern person: how films influence the formation of values, meanings, and perception. Representatives of the film industry, government bodies, the expert community, business, and youth organisations will participate in the discussions. The award will combine the research and business programme of the forum and the award ceremony. Winners will be determined by a competent jury, taking into account an assessment of the perception of the works by the youth audience and their influence on this audience. On 12 February, nominees will receive "Golden Stars" and the "Golden Gauntlet," and the winner of the "Big Golden Star" for the best film project will be announced.
