"It is important to create kind films about people": director Anton Maslov specially for the National Centre RUSSIA
Domestic cinema is only "gaining momentum"; it has an incredible foundation formed by Soviet films. At the same time, it is important to create kind films about people. This was stated on Russian Cinema Day in a conversation with the press service of the National Centre RUSSIA by director, producer and screenwriter of the series "Vampires of Central Russia", "The Last Bogatyr. Legacy", the films "Regards to My Husband", "Off the Rails", and "The High-Rise" Anton Maslov.
"I would like to congratulate everyone who loves and creates cinema on this holiday. I was asked what prospects Russian cinema has, where we are heading and what we aspire to. I believe that in this field we are still very young and promising, everything is only beginning for us, while we have an incredible foundation formed by Soviet cinema. At last we are reaching the level where we can make films no worse than international counterparts, but it is very important to remember that we need to create films that people will want to watch again — kind films about people," said Anton Maslov.
Russian Cinema Day
Russian Cinema Day is celebrated on 27 August — it is a professional holiday of filmmakers and cinema lovers. The history of the holiday dates back to the beginning of the last century. On this day in 1919, the decree of the Council of People’s Commissars of the RSFSR was adopted, according to which the entire film industry of the country came under state control. The holiday received its official status in 1980, in accordance with the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
On Russian Cinema Day, outstanding representatives of the film industry whose work has had a significant impact on the formation and development of Russian cinema are honoured. Retrospectives and premieres of Russian films are shown in cinemas, thematic expositions open in museums and libraries, lectures, film screenings, workshops and meetings with film professionals are organised by professional film studios and educational institutions, and thematic tours of filming locations are held.
The National Centre RUSSIA actively supports Russian cinema — in February it hosted the III International Festival of Documentary Films "RT.Doc: The Time of Our Heroes" and the II International Travelling Festival "Cinema in the Service of the Fatherland". In addition, meetings with renowned representatives of the film industry, lectures on iconic films and on the process of their creation are held here.
A key task facing the higher education system is to train not just professionals, but professional patriots — citizens with an active civic stance.
