"Great Laborer of Victory": granddaughter of General of the Army Andrei Khrulyov became a guest of the National Centre RUSSIA podcast
The National Centre RUSSIA continues its new project — the podcast series "Tell Me About Victory," dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and to the heroes whose feats remain forever in the memory of generations.
In the seventh episode, the guest of the podcast was Irina Khrulyova — granddaughter of General of the Army, Head of the Main Rear Directorate of the Red Army, Andrei Vasilyevich Khrulyov. Stalin called him "a great laborer of Victory."
"My grandfather identified problems with rear support during the Soviet-Finnish war. After that, there was a structural reorganization of the rear services in preparation for the Great Patriotic War," noted Irina Khrulyova.
At that time, the army consisted of about 10 million people. During the years of the Great Patriotic War, the work of the rear seemed almost invisible, yet the contributions of those working behind the front lines to the victory cannot be overstated.
In addition to his position as Head of the Main Rear Directorate of the Red Army, Khrulyov became People's Commissar of Railways. He began his work by raising salaries for railway workers, making the profession more attractive.
"My grandfather spent May 9, 1945, in Berlin. The Red Army fed and treated everyone, regardless of nationality. Victory Day is the most important holiday in our family," shared Irina Khrulyova.
The general's granddaughter also spoke about what a typical working day was like for the Head of the Main Rear Directorate of the Red Army, how he met his wife, and how it was a love that lasted a lifetime.
