Vera Shcherbina presented awards to distinguished residents of Primorye in honour of the region's 88th anniversary
A ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 88th anniversary of the founding of Primorye was held in Vladivostok. On 20 October 1938, a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR was signed dividing the Far Eastern Territory into the Khabarovsk and Primorye Territories — this date is considered the starting point of the region's history. First Vice-Governor and Chair of the Government of Primorye Vera Shcherbina presented state awards to residents of the region who have made a significant contribution to the development of the Territory.
Speaking before those gathered at the branch of the National Centre RUSSIA in the Primorye Territory, Vera Shcherbina emphasised the region’s importance for the country as a whole and for the Russian Far East.
"The city of Vladivostok is not only the capital of the Primorye Territory but the capital of the Far Eastern Federal District. We are not only an administrative capital. We are a tourism capital, a cultural capital, a youth capital, and a capital of financial culture. And, of course, the Primorye Territory is the gateway to the Asia-Pacific region," stated Vera Shcherbina.
Speaking about the economic development of the region, the head of the Territory's government noted a steady positive trend.
"The growth in industrial output here is the highest not only in the Far Eastern Federal District but also in the Russian Federation," the first vice-governor specified.
Among the key achievements, Vera Shcherbina named Primorye's leading position in the volume of housing construction — the region is successfully implementing the national projects established by the President of the Russian Federation. Growth is also recorded in agriculture, with the production of domestic goods increasing.
Significant successes have also been achieved in the social sphere. According to assessments by federal executive bodies, Primorye has improved its indicators in education, including the quality of Unified State Exam results. The situation in healthcare has also changed substantially.
"In recent years, a great deal has been done: high-tech medical equipment has been purchased, and many programmes have been implemented to build up a talent pool and attract specialists from other constituent entities of the Russian Federation. We are implementing our own programme for training mid-level medical personnel. We also lead in the Russian Federation in vocational education and secondary vocational education," emphasised Vera Shcherbina.
Of particular value, according to the head of the regional government, are the people whose labour makes all these results possible.
"The greatest wealth is, of course, you — the people sitting in this hall, because all these achievements have been made by your hands," noted Vera Shcherbina.
Concluding her speech, Vera Shcherbina warmly congratulated everyone present on the holiday, wished happiness and goodness to every home, and then presented state awards to those who, through their labour, have earned the recognition and gratitude of the region.
The event brought together young people, anyone seeking a better understanding of taxation, and representatives of government, business and professional communities.
