Grandchildren of Great Patriotic War heroes featured in podcast by the National Centre RUSSIA
The National Centre RUSSIA has concluded its podcast series titled "Tell Me About Victory," dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and to the heroes whose feats live on in the memory of generations.
In the tenth and final episode, the guests were descendants of outstanding military leaders.
Nadezhda Malinina, granddaughter of Red Army General and Hero of the Soviet Union Mikhail Malinin, shared memories of her grandfather.
"Grandfather never spoke about the brutal battle near Smolensk or the Vyazma operation, where thousands were killed or taken prisoner. No one in our family ever uttered the word 'war'," said Nadezhda Malinina.
Irina Khruleva, granddaughter of Army General Andrei Khrulev, Head of the Red Army’s Main Logistics Directorate, spoke about the difficult work her grandfather carried out.
"He started by raising salaries for railway workers and made the field more appealing. Before the counteroffensive near Stalingrad, two new railway lines were laid, and 700,000 shells were delivered to the front by train," noted Irina Khruleva.
Yulia Markos, granddaughter of Chief Marshal of Armoured Troops and Hero of the Soviet Union Amazasp Babadzhanyan, described her grandfather’s memories of the Battle of Kursk.
"The most difficult moments for him were when his friend was killed and when the Germans bombed a train carrying women and children. Grandfather had two wounds, one of them was very serious — in the throat. He had to wait a long time for medical assistance," said Yulia Markos.
Natalia Koneva, daughter of Marshal Ivan Konev, spoke about the symbol of Victory for her father.
"Prague rejoiced after its liberation. In the footage of those events, the city’s residents are seen showering Soviet troops with flowers, embracing them, and expressing their gratitude. Father said that the city would always remain for him a place filled with the scent of lilacs, because they were in full bloom then and, for him, became a symbol of Victory," shared Natalia Koneva.
All ten episodes of the "Tell Me About Victory" podcast are available to watch in the "Broadcasts and Recordings" section on the website of the National Centre RUSSIA.
