The Vologda region tied up all regions of the country with Laces of Russia

The Vologda region presented a large-scale project Lace of Russia, which united seven "lace" regions of the country, at the International RUSSIA EXPO.

The regions that have preserved their lace weaving traditions will create a joint lace panel in the colors of the Russian flag. The start of the campaign was given at the region's stand.

"The Vologda region is known for its lace all over the world. Lace craft is one of our cultural codes. For most regions of the country bobbin lace is an atypical kind of needlework. We decided to launch the campaign that will unite the regions where unique lace weaving traditions have been preserved. The most skillful lace makers of Russia will create a large lace canvas and thus demonstrate the originality and uniqueness of their regional weaving techniques," said Georgy Filimonov, Acting Governor of the Vologda region.

Today lace is woven in seven regions of Russia: the Vologda, Leningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Orel, Lipetsk, Ryazan and Kirov regions, as well as in the Northern Capital - St. Petersburg. Craftswomen from these regions will weave a lace panel with the symbols of the International RUSSIA EXPO with the size of two by three meters.

Each of the lace fragments will represent the style, aesthetics and traditional features of the lace of these regions. The blue stripe of the tricolor and the logo of the exposition will be woven by the lacewomen of the Vologda region, white and red - by the craftswomen of St. Petersburg and other six regions.

The final work will be presented on March 22 at the RUSSIA EXPO at VDNH.
