Volunteers of the National Centre RUSSIA honored the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Gora
The All-Russian action "Candle of Memory", dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, and the 84th anniversary of beginning of the Great Patriotic War, took place in Moscow at the Victory Museum on Poklonnaya Gora on the night of June 21-22. The volunteers of the National Centre RUSSIA took part in a large-scale memorial event that united thousands of people as a sign of sorrow and respect for the heroic deed of the Soviet people.
Before the start of the event, there were performed wartime songs and pieces of music dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. At 22:30, the concert program and the "Fire Paintings" project started, where symbolic images related to the history of the War were made with help of candles.
At midnight sharp on the square in front of the Victory Museum — the participants of the action honored the memory of the fallen with a minute of silence.
After that, the veterans of the Great Patriotic War lit a torch from the Flame of Memory and Glory, and handed the torch to the participants. Together with the honored guests, the volunteers of the National Centre RUSSIA lit 1,418 candles, according to the number of days the war lasted. Each candle has become a symbol of sorrow and gratitude to those who fought for the homeland.
After that, the participants of the action, among whom were 8 volunteers of the NC RUSSIA, solemnly put the lighted candles to the memorial "Fire of Eternal Glory".
"At that moment, all other feelings faded into the background — there was a deep sense of unity of the people, and involvement in the memory of the tragic day. It is at such moments that you feel a special connection with history," said Margarita Logacheva, manager of the volunteer program at the National Centre RUSSIA.
The "Candle of Memory" event is an important ritual of the national memory that helps to preserve historical truth and pass it on to future generations.
