Kherson region: Taurida Voyage and museum rarities
Kherson became the first fortress and outpost in the South of Russia. It is precisely why history became the main theme in the design of the region's fir tree at VDNH. In 1787 the Taurida Voyage, unprecedented in the number of participants, was carried out.
In the decoration of the fir tree, you can trace the route of Catherine the Great to Crimea, spot her quotes and see little-known paintings from the Kherson Museum.
It was from Kherson that the creation of some of the largest cities of Novorossiya began. Nikolaev, Odessa and Sevastopol joined afterwards.
Craftsmen from Kherson also made stylized watermelons to maintain the southern flavor of the New Year tree. Kherson watermelons are one of the recognizable brands of the region, which is known all over Russia.
On the Main Alley of VDNH visitors are greeted by 89 New Year trees, each of them representing a region of the country. The RUSSIA EXPO is open from Tuesday through Sunday, Monday is a technical day. The best time to visit is in the mornings and weekdays, but the exposition is open to everyone on weekends as well. All expositions and events are free of charge.
