Artists and viewers: a constructivist art object at the exposition "Legacy for the Future"
In the gallery of the National Centre RUSSIA, visitors can explore paintings, sculptures, engravings, photographs, video installations, and architectural projects created by young artists in recent years. Many of the art objects are positioned as interior pieces. One striking example is the project "Artists and Viewers: Constructivists" by Roman Mefedov, a graduate of Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry.
The work consists of three faience vases with designs in the constructivist style. These pieces are noteworthy both as works of art and as elements of contemporary interior design. On the surfaces of the vases, the artist depicts works by famous constructivists, viewers observing them, and the artists themselves — Lisitzky, Rodchenko, and Tatlin — portrayed as titans. Their silhouettes are placed at the centre of the composition, as if towering over the entire scene.
The author invites reflection on the interaction between viewers and works of art while emphasizing the importance of past artists in contemporary times. The contribution of constructivists to the development of culture and art is immeasurable: their works remain relevant, inspiring, and nurturing a new generation of artists.
The exposition "Legacy for the Future" presents works by young artists from six countries: Russia, China, India, Brazil, Ethiopia, and Iran. Through their art, these creators offer personal responses to contemporary challenges. They reflect on the present, express their attitude towards the past, and contemplate the future.
Visitors to the National Centre can enjoy the exposition either independently or by joining a free guided tour lasting 30 or 60 minutes. Registration is available on the website in the "Events" section.
