The Inventions Hall at the National Centre RUSSIA highlights the link between science and fiction
The first visitors to the National Centre RUSSIA are delighted with its vibrant halls and expositions dedicated to dreams and the future. These displays answer three main questions: how did visionaries of the past imagine tomorrow, who is building the future today, and what will that future look like for each of us? The Inventions Hall attracts the special attention from visitors.
In a retrofuturistic style, the Inventions Hall recalls a scientist’s lab from the late 1800s, immersing guests in the journey of daring ideas from science fiction writers — ideas that might have remained unfulfilled without the skills of talented scientists and inventors.
The Hall showcases some of the greatest inventions by Russian innovators, spanning from 1650 to the present day, while allowing guests to trace the literary works that inspired these scientific creations.
For instance, the Vostok rocket, which launched the era of human space exploration and is featured in a model here, was described nearly 300 years before its actual launch by Cyrano de Bergerac in his work "Other Worlds: The States and Empires of the Moon." Similarly, the Nosher exoskeleton, developed in Norilsk Nickel’s digital lab, was anticipated by Ivan Yefremov in his 1957 novel "Andromeda Nebula".
Even social networks — a part of daily life for most people — bring to life the vision of author Mark Twain, who imagined a global community of connected individuals. The hall also includes fashion innovations, like aerosol fabric spray cans and even mobile phones, which were predicted as far back as 1978 by Kir Bulychev in "One Hundred Years Ahead". In short, a visit to this exposition gives guests of the National Centre insight into how dreamers of the past envisioned the future and celebrates the greatest inventors who brought these dreams to life.
The National Centre RUSSIA was established by order of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, to preserve the legacy of the International RUSSIA EXPO and to showcase the achievements of the country and its citizens on a permanent basis. Federal government agencies, state companies, corporations, and regions take part in the Centre’s work. The first event at the National Centre RUSSIA was the International Symposium "Inventing the Future," which welcomed more than 6,000 guests from 101 countries.
The National Centre RUSSIA is located at 14 Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment, Moscow. The Centre is open from 10:00 to 20:00 every day except Monday.
