The birthplace of Snegurochka (Snow Maiden). Kostroma region
The concept
of the exposition is associated with one of the main tourist brands of the
Kostroma region — Snow Maiden (Russian name: Snegurochka), the granddaughter of
the Russian Santa Claus. Tourists from all parts of Russia go to the homeland
of Snegurochka, which is situated in a wooded area, in preserved virgin spruce
forests of the Kologrivsky Forest Reserve, on the blooming bank of the Volga
River. There Snegurochka greets guests.
The
exposition area is divided into the parts
depicting the Volga River and its bank in bloom. An art object on the bank is
Snegurochka herself, and three fir trees behind her, symbolizing the forests of
the Kostroma region. The symbolic image of the Volga River is filled with a
gentian plant blooming with blue flowers. The bank along the outline of the
river is sprinkled with white marble chips. The parts of a free outline,
alyssum pink and alyssum white, alternating with each other, make up a blooming
meadow of mother-of-pearl color. A decoration around Snow Maiden is alyssum
purple, the fir trees have Wittrock violet.
An ordinary
spruce (Pícea ábies) can be considered as a typical plant of the Kostroma
region. It is one of the forest-forming species there. Woods make up 78% of the
total area of the region, and Kostroma spruce is highly appreciated in the
woodworking industry. The spruce forests of the region have the Kologrivsky
Forest Reserve, which is the only survived array of virgin spruce woods in the
central part of Russia.
