Rose of Donbass. Donetsk People’s Republic
In the 1970s, UNESCO recognized Donetsk as the greenest of
all industrial cities in the world. To this day, the capital of Russia's
industrial heartland blooms with a million roses. Roses have been traditionally
planted on the streets of Donetsk since the 60s of the XX century. According to
the idea of Vladimir Degtyarev, the then first Secretary of the Regional
Committee of the Communist Party at the time, a rose was to be planted for each
resident, thanks to which Donetsk became popularly known as "the city of a
million roses". Nowadays up to 2 million roses are planted here every
year.
The centerpiece of the floral composition of the DPR is a
topiary of three intertwined roses, which is almost exactly the same as the
forged sculpture located in the central part of the city. The view from above
is of a rosebud in black, blue and red colors symbolizing our flag. The blue
color of the ageratum flower symbolizes the waters of the Sea of Azov. The
black color is achieved by imitating coal, the most important natural mineral
for the economy of the region.
Kordana rose is a deciduous or evergreen shrubby plant up to
200 cm high. In ancient times, the flower was a symbol of courage, bravery,
infinity of the soul, divine beginning. Buds have tonic, anti-inflammatory,
antiseptic and soothing properties. In addition, they contain a whole complex
of vitamins.
