Floribunda rose. Yaroslavl region
The Floribunda rose is one of the most popular groups of garden roses, known for its abundant blooming, wide variety of colors and fragrances, hardiness, and good frost resistance. "Floribunda" translates to "abundantly flowering."
The buds bloom in summer and fill the area with bright colors
until the first autumn frosts. These bush roses are characterized by lush
blooming, usually with 3 to 9 buds on one stem. The colors range from delicate
white to deep purple.
Floribunda roses are extremely versatile; they can be used to create living hedges, borders, decorate alpine slides, and embellish the foregrounds of architectural objects.
In Russia, the Floribunda rose arrived relatively recently, in the
XVII century. It was presented to Tsar Mikhail Fyodorovich by the German
ambassador, and later, under Peter the Great, they began to cultivate the rose
in the royal gardens.
Roses are a
traditional symbol of monastic gardens. The thorns of the flowers remind
Christians of Christ's crown of thorns, while the flowers are associated with
the fragrant gardens of paradise. Today, rose gardens can be found in the Tolga
Monastery, the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Museum-Reserve, and the Kazan Convent.
The rose is
often called the flower of the Virgin Mary; it has become a symbol of mercy,
forgiveness, and acceptance for Christians. Artists depicted the Virgin Mary
with three wreaths of these flowers: a circlet of white roses symbolized joy,
yellow roses represented glory, and red roses reminded of suffering. The red
rose is associated with Jesus Christ. The blood of Christ, collected by angels
in a golden chalice, spilled onto the moss and turned into a wondrous scarlet
flower.
Orthodox
churches, of which there are about two hundred in the Yaroslavl region, are
adorned with these flowers on the eve of important church holidays. All the
main monasteries and cathedrals cultivate roses as a fundamental element of
floral decoration.
