Where the whales live. Khabarovsk region
Bowhead whales of the Sea of Okhotsk are a unique natural heritage of the Khabarovsk region. The exhibition display is dedicated to the problem of preserving this ancient Arctic species, which has been severely damaged by human activity. The bowhead whale is a typical representative of the Arctic waters. Also, it is one of the most important indicators of a fragile Arctic ecosystems' condition. Along with other species, it is in the focus of the federal project "Preservation of biological diversity and development of ecological tourism" stemming from the national project "Ecology".
Today, the population of whales living in the waters of the Shantar Islands is slowly recovering its numbers, but these amazing majestic creatures still need protection. An exhibition flower garden imitates a water space. There, in the center of the composition, you can see spectacularly raised tail fins of whales, made of soft metal.
The plasticity and color palette of the plants used in the display create atmosphere of the sea element: waves of blue ageratum give place to the shimmer of cineraria seaside with white foam of alyssum, hydrangea, small splashes of white ageratum and dramatic highlights of irezine lindenii (Linden's bloodleaf). The Far Eastern flora is represented by individual specimens of rhododendrons, harmoniously supporting the marine theme.
