At a press conference held at MIA "Rossiya Segodnya" on April 4, Dmitry Dmitriyenko, Director and Artistic Director of the L. G. Zykina State Academic Russian Folk Ensemble "Russia", shared details about the key stages and concept of the project "Modern Musical Map of Russia".

The project will bring together composers from all regions of the country. Each composer will create a musical piece reflecting the cultural characteristics of their region. The best of these compositions will be included in a single concert program that will be presented in ten cities across Russia. The final concerts will take place in September 2025 in Moscow at the Grand Hall of Nikita Mikhalkov’s "Workshop '12'". According to Dmitry Dmitriyenko, this project has no analogues.

"National academic art of Russia is a unique phenomenon. It is precisely this that will be fully revealed within the framework of this initiative," he emphasized.

The selection of composers will take place in several stages. First, candidates will be chosen at the regional level, after which they will be approved by a federal expert commission. Then, joint work with performers will begin: the State Ensemble "Russia", ensembles of the Orpheus Television and Radio Centre, and the All-Russian Youth Orchestra of the Peoples of Russia. Orientation sessions and creative expeditions to the regions are planned, allowing composers to immerse themselves more deeply in the cultural environment of their homeland.

"Composers must be given complete freedom. We do not know in advance what their artistic decisions will be — and that is the true value of the project. We are creating not just compositions, but a living musical organism that unites the timbres, colors, and traditions of the entire country," noted Dmitry Dmitriyenko.

All musical compositions will be professionally recorded and published on streaming platforms. They will also become part of the repertoires of regional creative ensembles.

The culmination of the project will be a gala concert at the National Centre RUSSIA on November 4, 2025 — on National Unity Day. That evening, the State Anthem of the Russian Federation will be performed in a unique interpretation that brings together the richness of the national instruments of the peoples of Russia.

In addition, an extensive festival program featuring the country’s leading musical ensembles is planned throughout the year. The festival will open in Cheboksary, with concerts taking place in Barnaul, Kirov, Belgorod, Kalmykia, Kursk, Volgograd, Khabarovsk, and other cities. Dmitry Dmitriyenko emphasized the special value of the project.

"Everything happening within the framework of the 'Modern Musical Map of Russia' forms in us the concept of moral intelligence — the ability to perceive and appreciate the culture of other people. This is the unifying force we want to reveal through music," concluded Dmitry Dmitriyenko.

The project is being implemented by the Foundation for Innovative Development of Culture, Education and Science (FIRKON) with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
