Expert dispels top 3 myths about electric cars

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation arranged a lecture Electromobility Today: Myths and Reality. Guests of the International RUSSIA EXPO learned how much you can save on an electric car in 5 years, how you can utilize batteries after using the car, and where to expect electric transport in the coming years.
At the lecture, Sitronics Electro executive director Andrey Gurlenov dispelled myths about electric cars and emphasized their advantages over traditional cars.
"According to our survey, more than half of Russians (59%) hesitate to switch to electric cars because of the insufficient number of charging stations in the city. Almost every second person (48%) noted their high cost as the main disadvantage, and for 14% the range of electric vehicle models is too small. However, we want to point out that many people are mistaken about these disadvantages," Gurlenov said.
It is important to increase the availability of electric charging stations across the country as well, for example, there are already more than 120 charging stations from Sitronics Electro, and their number is only increasing every year. It's worth noting that among them there are 72 ultra-fast charging stations for electric buses, which can charge more than 490 vehicles at a time.
Another common myth is related to the high cost of electric vehicles. Andrey Gurlenov emphasized that electric vehicles can be more cost-effective than internal combustion engine vehicles, as the former have lower operating costs. For example, taking into account maintenance, fuel and other expenses, five years of ownership of an ordinary Hyundai Solaris will cost an average of 4.8 million rubles, while the Evolute i-Pro electric car will cost 3.7 million rubles.
"The third myth is related to the 'small' range. Unfortunately, many people are simply unaware that domestic electric transport includes both passenger cars (Moskvich, Evolute), commercial vehicles (GAZ, EVM PRO), and even passenger small and large vehicles (from GAZ to KAMAZ and Volgabus)," Gurlenov added.
