New Year tree of the Donetsk People’s Republic: ancient Slavic amulet and unusual roses
The most ancient Slavic amulet became the main element of the decoration of the New Year fir tree of the Republic — the stylized ribbons depict images and ornaments from rushnik towels.
A rushnik is a decorative towel made of homespun canvas, decorated with embroidery, lace and ribbons. Since ancient times in Russia rushnik had not only aesthetic purpose, but also ritual and ceremonial use.
Rushnik embroidery used various symbols in the shape of animals, plants and geometric patterns.
Special attention attracts a large element of decoration — a rose in the colors of the flag of the Donetsk People’s Republic, made by blacksmiths of Donetsk. The rose has long been an unofficial symbol of the city. Once, back in Soviet times, the industrial center became the city of a million roses and was recognized by UNESCO as the greenest of all industrial cities in the world.

The most convenient time to visit is in the mornings and weekdays, but the exposition is open to everyone on weekends as well. All expositions and events are free of charge.
