How smart clothes can withstand temperatures of 400°C and help save lives - the VEB.RF pavilion "Cities for Life Come True" told about unique developments

The VEB.RF pavilion "Cities for Life Come True" told about how domestic smart fabrics are changing the fashion industry, light industry and life of every person. For example, they help firefighters to work in extreme conditions at temperatures over 400°C, and polar explorers - at extremely low temperatures. And these are not just laboratory developments: successful tests of these innovative materials have already been conducted together with real rescuers.
Olga Moskalyuk, head of the SmartTextiles Polymer and Composite Materials Laboratory at Kant BFU and founder of high-tech startups, explained to the guests of the exposition how modern fabrics provide an incredibly high level of heat and moisture protection.
The most popular type of smart fabric that is being developed today is Smart fabric, or e-textile. In such materials, technological components are part of the fabric, they are invisible, do not interfere with movement, and can be washed. An example of such an innovative material is liquid chain mail - a soft material printed on a 3D printer that becomes hard under pressure. Studies have shown that the "chain mail" can withstand 50 times its own weight.
