"Crafts and Trades of the Orel Region" exposition is open at the RUSSIA EXPO

All guests of the Orel stand at VDNH from July 2 to 8 can learn about the unique features of the Orel region, folk crafts and trades that have historically developed and are preserved today.
Among the exhibits are rag dolls in folk holiday costumes, towels embroidered in the technique of "Orlovsky Spis", Liveny accordions and traditional black clay pottery. The exposition is dedicated to the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity. It was prepared by the staff of the Orel Regional Centre of Folk Art.
Also from July 2 to July 4 in the Orel pavilion a master show on making traditional reed belts is organized. Its participants get acquainted with the art of belt weaving, with the tools and the principle of work, learn how to make schemes for the filling pattern, weave the base, tuck the reed and weave filling (simple) patterns. The specialist tells about the history of origin and ceremonial functions of the belt in human life.
In addition, these days there is a masterclass "Thread Bracelet". There you can make a cord on your fingers in the technique of twitching. This is a very old way of making braid. Back in the early Middle Ages, the Slavs wove such narrow strong braids to cover ponyovas, button loops, on gashniki (pants ties), on ruffles. Cords of thick woolen threads were used to make bracelets.
The lesson "Pava Bird" is also planned. During this class they sew Pava Bird - a symbol of family happiness and love - from felt. In addition, everyone will learn the secrets of the Orlovsky Spis.
