Organic matter in space, life on Venus and the future of humanity: a new episode of the "Russia Speaks" podcast is now available

Where in the Solar System should we be looking for life right now — on Venus, Europa, Enceladus or Titan? How realistic is the colonisation of Mars, and does humanity have any alternative to Earth? Answers to these questions are explored in the new, 13th episode of the "Russia Speaks" podcast. The guest of the episode is astronomer and astrochemist Dmitry Wiebe, who discusses some of the key mysteries of the Universe.

The scientist explains why space is far from empty, how the "building blocks of life" are synthesised under extreme conditions, and examines promising targets in the search for life — the subsurface oceans of Europa and Enceladus, the clouds of Venus, and the mystery of phosphine. Dmitry Wiebe also shares his views on the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, technosignatures, and the problem of "Earth chauvinism" in our understanding of space.

Another focus of the discussion is the future of humanity. The expert speaks about the technical and biological obstacles to colonising Mars, the need for preparation on the Moon, and the importance of long-term planning in light of the Sun’s evolution. Dmitry Wiebe also offers brief forecasts for the future of astronomy.

The original podcast "Russia Speaks", produced by the National Centre RUSSIA, continues the tradition of open dialogue on the most pressing issues of our time. The project brings together leading experts and cultural figures whose ideas and experience help make sense of a rapidly changing world.

The episode is available to watch on the website russia.ru.
