There was a masterclass on making traditional belts on a reed at the region’s stand.
As part of the event, folk craftsmen and guests of the stand wove a patterned belt three meters long in just five hours. This is an absolute record for the RUSSIA EXPO.
Let us note that in the past every woman had know how to weave patterned belts. A girl was taught this from the age of 5–6. A belt was the mandatory attribute of Russian women's and men's folk costume, and the ornament of the belts always had a sacred meaning. It was impossible to walk without a belt, just like without a cross. This was considered indecent. It was the belt that was tied to the baby that introduced the newly born little person into the world of people, into the space of culture. Sometimes people wore two belts. The wide one - over clothes. The belt given at birth was worn on the naked body. It was considered the main one.
In addition, more than one kilometer of thread and approximately 10 square meters of canvas have already been spent on Orel spis type of embroidery at the region’s stand.
Guests of the exposition were given more than 2,500 tourist maps of the city of Orel, 2,000 tourist maps of the Orel region, 700 tourist guides, 1,500 thematic booklets.
