Spend the May holidays with your whole family at the National Centre RUSSIA
The National Centre RUSSIA invites Moscow residents and guests of the capital to spend the May holidays together — from 1 to 10 May, a large-scale programme for the whole family will take place here. Throughout the holidays, the "Geography Lessons" exposition will be open to visitors. This is a unique journey through cartographic treasures from the country's leading repositories, which can be visited either as part of a guided tour or independently with an audio guide.
Specifically for the celebration of the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, themed displays have been prepared within the exposition, dedicated to the role of geography and cartography during the years of battle. Guests will be able to learn how topographers assisted at the front, see the "Victory Map", trace the course of key combat events, and understand the role that knowledge of the terrain played in achieving Victory.
"Geography Lessons" is a journey through the history of the country: from ancient maps and the routes of pioneers to modern technologies and space research. Unique exhibits from the country's leading libraries, archives, and scientific centres are gathered in eight themed halls. The exposition tells the story of great expeditions, the development of territories, natural resources, the advancement of transport routes, and the formation of Russia's image in the world.
Entry to the exposition is free. It is possible to register for a group tour on the website russia.ru or visit independently. Keep an eye on updates in the "Events" section.
The May holiday programme will be complemented by commemorative and patriotic campaigns. On 1 May, the "Wall of Memory" nationwide campaign will open at the National Centre RUSSIA, where everyone can place a photograph of their hero.
On 3 May at 14:00, a meeting will be held with the head of the Youth Club of the Russian Geographical Society, Konstantin Andreyev, during the lecture "Exploring Russia: How to Become a Pioneer".
On 7 and 8 May, the National Centre RUSSIA will host the premiere of the historical performance "Soldiers' Dreams," dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The project is based on wartime chronicles. Documentary footage, memoirs, songs, and poems of those years will immerse the audience in the atmosphere of the past. Through the eyes of three war correspondents, guests will witness iconic episodes of the war: the departure for the front from the Belorussky Railway Station, everyday life in the trenches, battles, the joy of Victory, and, most importantly, the soldiers' dreams of returning home that provided support and hope.
The production is set to be one of the most large-scale events at the National Centre RUSSIA. It will feature around 500 performers, including the Rosgvardia Choir, the Gzhel Dance Theatre, children's ensembles, and soloists. The audience will see People's Artists of Russia Lev Leshchenko, Ilya Reznik, Sergei Shakurov, and Valeriya, Honoured Artist of Russia Yelena Vaenga, as well as popular contemporary artists: Varvara, Klava Koka, Khabib, and others. They will perform legendary songs in both classical and new arrangements.
As a special gift for all spectators on 7 May, a performance by a massed children's brass band will take place in the foyer before the show begins. It will be led by Mikhail Bryzgalov, President of the Russian Brass Society, Honoured Art Worker of the Russian Federation, member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, and member of the Presidential Council for Culture and Art. More than 130 young musicians from three Moscow ensembles will perform the melodies to which soldiers went into battle and welcomed the Victory — marches, waltzes, and songs of courage and love for the Motherland.
Events at the "Geography Lessons" lecture hall will complement the festive programme: on 7 May, the "Military Topography Lesson" lecture will take place, and on 8 May, the "Victory Legacy" quiz, dedicated to the history, culture, and science of the war years, will be held.
Furthermore, themed blocks dedicated to the people's feat during the war years will appear in the "Journey Across Russia" permanent exposition, where guests will learn about the contribution of regions to the Victory — from the Far East to Kuzbass.
At the National Centre RUSSIA, guests can also try delicious national cuisine from various regions of our country in the Gastronomy Rows and familiarise themselves with the best products from Russian manufacturers in the Department Store.
The National Centre RUSSIA awaits its guests to collectively remember the heroic pages of history, learn more about their country, and spend the May holidays in an interesting, informative, and truly unifying way.
The international exposition-forum ARCH MOSCOW will open at Gostiny Dvor (the Old Merchant Court) on 27 May.
Through the digital platform, young people from across the country will be able to tell stories of these heroes in short video formats.
The meeting focused on generating concrete proposals and collaboratively developing initiatives.
