Federal platform "In the Name of Heroes" officially launches at the National Centre RUSSIA
A ceremonial presentation of the federal platform "In the Name of Heroes" took place at the National Centre RUSSIA. The project is dedicated to people Russia is proud of: heroes of the Great Patriotic War and the special military operation, doctors, teachers, volunteers, and those who help others every day. Through the digital platform, young people from across the country will be able to tell stories of these heroes in short video formats. The event brought together representatives of the Presidential Executive Office and the Government of the Russian Federation, deputies of the State Duma, senators of the Russian Federation, as well as more than 1,400 young people from across the country. The platform was officially launched by MGIMO University Rector and Chairman of the Expert Council of the "In the Name of Heroes" platform Anatoly Torkunov and Head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodyozh) Grigory Gurov.
Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Konstantin Kosachev, delivered welcoming remarks: "A famous wartime song once said: 'Sometimes not even the names of heroes of past times remain.' If we think carefully about these words, this is exactly what must never be allowed: every name must be preserved, every hero must become an example for those who follow. This is the first dimension of the project."
Secondly, the Federation Council vice speaker emphasised that the new initiative was not created for young people, but is being implemented by young people, and every participant has the opportunity to contribute.
"Thirdly, this project exists in a digital format. It is important that younger generations perceive the Internet not only as a space for entertainment and communication, but also as a platform for self-expression," he added.
The federal creative works platform "In the Name of Heroes" is a new digital project where young people create video adaptations of stories about Russian heroes of the past and present. It gives young people a tool for publicly expressing pride in those who have become personal examples of service to the Motherland.
Director of the Information and Press Department and Official Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova emphasised the key role of every citizen and the importance of historical memory for achieving victory together.
"Today I hear words and familiar phrases stating that we are a great country with an immense history, a civilisation-state, and that victory will be ours. There is no doubt about that. But there is one tiny nuance: do not think that this victory is forged only by a small part of our society on the front lines, or only by those who create and produce weapons, or by those who financially support the front. No — there can be no victory without the home front. There can be no victory without the efforts of civil society, of society as a whole. And one of the fronts where the fiercest battles are unfolding is the front of our memory — the historical front," Maria Zakharova noted.
The event also included a plenary discussion devoted to serving the Motherland in various fields. Federal ministers, distinguished figures from culture, sports, and healthcare took part in it.
MGIMO University Rector and Chairman of the Expert Council of the "In the Name of Heroes" platform, Anatoly Torkunov, stressed that the project originated as an initiative of the students themselves, for whom preserving the memory of the country's heroes is especially important: "We have a brilliant future because we have such youth — young people who care about the country, about its past, about the heroes of this country, about valor, courage, and glory. This is great happiness. Today's event is highly unusual even for me as a university rector, because this initiative comes entirely from students. When the students proposed creating such a platform, they were guided by the understanding that today it is vitally important to speak about the heroic deeds of our heroes."
Anatoly Torkunov also especially highlighted the role of the project's initiators, MGIMO students Yegor Firsov and Dmitry Dushevin.
"Heroes — men, women, young people, those who are now saving our country — are important guiding lights for youth. Every young person, while growing up, should see what they can become, how to act, what to do, and how to speak. It is important to show this ideal, speak about it, honor it, and promote it among all," emphasised Head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs Grigory Gurov.
The project is being implemented with the support of the Federation Council, the State Duma, the Ministry of Education of Russia, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the Ministry of Health of Russia, TASS, the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the Dobro.RF Association, the Russian society Znanie, and other partners.
