Symbols for the 500-rouble banknote: choosing together
On 1 October, online voting will begin to select the symbols for the new 500-rouble banknote. The banknote is dedicated to the North Caucasus Federal District and its capital, the city of Pyatigorsk. The voting is supported by the National Centre RUSSIA.
Each participant will have to choose two symbols: one for the front side of the banknote — from the landmarks of Pyatigorsk, and one for the reverse side — from the sites of the North Caucasus Federal District. All symbols have been approved by experts from the Advisory Council on Banknotes.
The landmarks that receive the highest number of votes will be used by the artists of the Bank of Russia and Goznak in designing the composition of the banknote. The design includes foreground and background images as well as micro-patterns, all arranged with consideration for security elements. The final design will be approved by the Board of Directors of the Bank of Russia.
The new 500-rouble banknote will join other denominations that have already been modernised. They are designed according to a unified concept: one banknote — one federal district. Updated 100- and 5000-rouble banknotes are already in circulation. At the end of the year, the Bank of Russia will present the new design of the 1000-rouble banknote.
The voting will close on 14 October at 12:00 Moscow time.
