Science Slam competition of young scientists at the RUSSIA EXPO
12.12.2023
The participants presented projects dedicated to the application of polymers in medicine, aircraft construction, fuel and energy complex and other areas. The scientific component of the participants' projects was evaluated by Skolkovo residents - experts from the SIBUR PolyLab research center.
One of the works is devoted to the development of hollow polymer nanocapsules. The project may increase the efficiency of treatment of complex diseases. Another project is aimed at improving the performance of carbon plastics for aviation, rocket science and transportation. The audience also appreciated a study on energy conservation with polymers and other projects.
"When a researcher speaks, makes such a report, he looks at his own development from a slightly different angle. This is important and interesting. Many discoveries were made in such an atmosphere. For example, you know the story that Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev had a dream about the periodic table. This was preceded by a lot of work, and something crystallized in the dream. Perhaps after such speeches some of the young scientists will get a new idea. Maybe it won't be the Mendeleev table, but it will also be interesting," said Vasily Mashukov, Executive Director of SIBUR PolyLab.
Daudi Dauddin won the competition with his research on adding polymer thickening additives to petroleum oils to improve energy efficiency. The project has already found application in industry. Science Slam is a competition of young scientists in an unconventional format. The leaders of the competition were determined by the audience with the help of applause and a noise meter.
SIBUR's House of Polymers is Russia's largest educational and awareness-raising space about oil and gas chemistry. The pavilion is located in Pavilion No. 12 at VDNH. The International RUSSIA EXPO will run until April 12, 2024. After the exposition is over, the House of Polymers will continue its work and the exposition will be expanded.
