The first meeting of the National Committee on Business Cooperation within BRICS held at the National Centre RUSSIA
The first meeting of the National Committee on Business Cooperation within BRICS took place on 26 March at the National Centre RUSSIA. The Committee is chaired by Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of Russia, Maxim Oreshkin. The event was held on the sidelines of the 35th Congress of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. Following the meeting, the composition of the Committee was approved.
"The Committee was established by decision of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. This is a new format for organising interaction with our partners in the business sphere within BRICS. The share of the association in the global economy has already exceeded that of the G7. As is well known, in terms of purchasing power parity, this amounts to around 40% of global GDP. Behind these, at first glance, simple figures lies an important point — the nature of international relations is changing. Whereas previously technology, trade, and finance flowed primarily through Western countries, direct links between BRICS countries are now strengthening, as well as between states within the ‘South–South’ framework. In particular, new financial payment mechanisms are emerging. We see how modern technological solutions are being formed in new centres of growth. This is why such relationships already play, and will continue to play, an increasingly important role in the economy of the future," Maxim Oreshkin said in his address to the participants.
Speaking about the work of the National Committee on Business Cooperation within BRICS, Maxim Oreshkin noted that in the coming months it is planned to hold a meeting to define objectives and working mechanisms across various areas of business cooperation within BRICS. He added that the Committee will be a flexible and evolving structure, with meetings planned twice a year on the sidelines of major events such as the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The decree on establishing the Committee was signed by Vladimir Putin on 16 February 2026. It was created to ensure effective interaction between the business community and relevant federal executive authorities involved in developing Russia’s multilateral and bilateral business cooperation within BRICS.
