Unique dolls of fairy tale characters are featured at the National Centre RUSSIA’s Department Store
A
collection of unique, handcrafted dolls is now on display at the Department
Store of the National Centre RUSSIA. Yekaterina Borzunova, an artisan from the
Volgograd region, creates these enchanting pieces using her own author’s
method. Ded Moroz and Snegurochka, Baba Yaga, and Kuzya the House Elf — these
fairy tale characters seem to have stepped straight out of beloved childhood
books. Each doll makes a wonderful gift for both children and adults,
especially during the New Year season, when a touch of magic feels most
welcome.
Yekaterina crafts her dolls using polymer clay, synthetic padding, wire, and acrylic paints. Particular attention is given to the outfits, which are hand-sewn and dyed. The artist never uses templates, ensuring that every doll is one of a kind. The dolls’ appearances captivate with remarkable realism. Although Yekaterina has no formal art education, it hasn’t stopped her from developing her unique style and mastering her craft.
Motherhood has been a significant source of inspiration for Yekaterina’s work. A translator by profession, she sought a creative endeavor that would allow her to earn an income while staying close to her children. This led to the creation of her first dolls. Today, Yekaterina Borzunova’s collectible dolls can be found in private collections worldwide. Visitors to the National Centre RUSSIA can also admire and purchase these extraordinary creations at the Department Store.
