The cultural and historical project "The Great Russian Northern Way" was presented to the visitors of the International RUSSIA EXPO by its authors.
The bicycle and pedestrian route runs from the Black Sea to the White Sea. It purposefully avoids busy highways, giving preference to trails among green expanses, not marring the way with dense forests and swamps. Travelers can enjoy the natural beauty of different regions of the country, immerse themselves into the rich cultural history and feel the unique flavor of the settlements through which the route passes.
It is based on the principle of "Camino de Santiago" - the ancient pilgrimage road of St. James in Spain, where travelers stay overnight in monasteries. So on the "Great Russian Northern Way" travelers are welcomed by shelters: ancient temples, guest houses and complexes, old manor houses and homes of local residents. Within these hospitable walls one can feel the power of ancestors, immerse into the atmosphere of peace and spirituality.
The team members at the stand of the Arkhangelsk region shared their experience in creating and developing the project.
For example, Alla Fattakhova noted that the part of the route through the Arkhangelsk region attracts special attention of tourists.
"The idea is that we pass the route without tents, and spend the night in guest houses and houses of local residents who are ready to receive travelers, - she said. - Tourists get acquainted and communicate with them, learn about traditions and customs, listen to the Pomor language, and at dinner try real northern cuisine".
The team is developing another route in the Arkhangelsk region - "Lomonosov's Way". The authors plan to install information boards and art objects along the route.
