History through the ages. Pskov region
"A nation
that does not know its past has no future" is the leitmotif quote on which the general
concept of the exposition is based. Historical and cultural tourism is the main
direction the Pskov region has focused its attention on.
Each element symbolizes one of the aspects of life in the region: military power and heroic past, diverse flora and fauna, as well as contribution to the cultural life of the country. The centerpiece of the exposition is the Varlaam Tower, which is a multi-layered construction of five layers - the number of ancient fortress towns of Pskov.
Around the
Varlaam Tower the relief is filled with plants and decorative elements common
in the region. The tower itself acts as a reference to the stand of the Pskov
region in Pavilion No. 75 "Russia".
Next to the tower is the Velikaya River, along which a flock of Pskov smelt
swims. The layers of the Varlaam Tower consist of trailing plants of various
colors.
Heather is
the symbol of the region. In the second half of summer in the pine forests and
on the upper bogs of the Pskov region you can see bushes strewn with delicate
light pink flowers, shaped like small bells. This is the abundant blooming of
heather, a wonderful honey plant and the protagonist of many myths and legends.
Along with the RUSSIA EXPO, the flower festival is also coming to an end.
The "Future in Flowers" festival continues at the RUSSIA EXPO, where unique flowerbeds from all regions of our country can be seen at the "Space" pavilion until July 8.
The RUSSIA EXPO concludes on July 8, and with it, the flower festival will also come to an end.
