The Volga-Don interfluve. Volgograd region
The great
rivers Don and Volga, flowing through the Volgograd steppes, are the basis of
the floral composition concept, complemented by the symbol of the largest event
of the Volgograd region and the south of Russia — the Youth Festival
#ThreeFour.
The color
scheme of the festival is realized through typical plants of the Volgograd
steppes (about 80% of the territory of the region): feather grass, Volga
fescue, sage, oregano, veronica and catnip. They are supplemented by cultivated
species: lavender and ageratum. The plants bloom from May to June. About 250
plants are used for floral design.
The steppe
is the kingdom of stipa or feather grasses. In the Volgograd region, the
feather grass is the most typical drought-resistant and light-loving steppe
grass. Long white pinnate awns appear at flowering. They give the steppe a
rippling "gray hair". In the fall, the seeds of grasses fly on these "feathers"
all over the steppe. In bylinas and old songs, the stipa was called silk grass
because of the softness of its inflorescences. In local Cossack beliefs, the
feather grass is honored as a protective herb.
The flower
bed is complemented by decorative metal figures of fish and seagulls, which are
an integral attribute of the Don and Volga rivers.
Along with the RUSSIA EXPO, the flower festival is also coming to an end.
The "Future in Flowers" festival continues at the RUSSIA EXPO, where unique flowerbeds from all regions of our country can be seen at the "Space" pavilion until July 8.
The RUSSIA EXPO concludes on July 8, and with it, the flower festival will also come to an end.
