Nightingale Land. Kursk region
The flowerbed of the Kursk region is crowned by the
Triumphal Arch. This Arch is an architectural landmark of Kursk, it stands at
the entrance to the city. Various grasses are planted on a flowerbed _behind_
the arch. They represent flora growing in the protected area of the region.
The composition is complemented by backlit figures of Kursk
nightingales with musical accompaniment — a nightingale trill, and is completed
by the ‘smooth surface of the river’, made of plastic mirror and symbolizing
the Tuskar and the Seim rivers. The base of the flowerbed is faced with Corten
steel (also known as weathered steel), and this is the reference to the Kursk
magnetic anomaly. The front side of the flowerbed is decorated in the form of a
panel imitating the Corten steel.
The flowerbed contains the same meadow grasses that grow in
the Wildlife Sanctuary "Streletskaya Steppe", which is known for its
unique nature. Among them the feather grass (Stipa pennata). It is a perennial
plant 40-90 cm tall, which forms a dense layer of grass, blooms in May-June,
and in June-July is ready to propagate with seeds — caryopses. In fairy tales,
epics poems, and old songs, this feather grass was called silk grass, because
its ears seemed to be very soft and delicate.
Along with the RUSSIA EXPO, the flower festival is also coming to an end.
The "Future in Flowers" festival continues at the RUSSIA EXPO, where unique flowerbeds from all regions of our country can be seen at the "Space" pavilion until July 8.
The RUSSIA EXPO concludes on July 8, and with it, the flower festival will also come to an end.
